THE ARCHIVE

This is an archive of broadcast fragments recovered from histories that diverged from ours. News segments, tickers, addresses, weather, a game show. The ordinary furniture of television, from evenings nobody here remembers. All of it aired on ARN, a network that exists in every timeline we have recovered from.

Recovery is slow, and it is not orderly. Tapes surface out of sequence, sometimes years apart, sometimes in the middle of a sentence. Some are emergency reports. Others are sixty seconds of weather. What has been cleared is catalogued and posted. What has not is listed, and held.

Every accession carries two dates. The first is the night it aired, in its own timeline. The second is the day it surfaced in this one. The archive is organized by divergence: the moment a timeline split from the one you're living in.

These are not better worlds. Each one is better in the ways you'd notice and worse in the ways you wouldn't, and the tapes never say which is which. They read the evening as it came.
